What is vegan at Outback Steakhouse? Not much, to be honest

Table of Contents

Outback Steakhouse is an Australian-themed American casual dining restaurant chain known for its steak, seafood, and other Australian-inspired dishes. Founded in 1988, it has become one of the largest casual dining chains globally, with over 1,000 locations in more than 20 countries. As its name suggests, it isn’t a vegan-friendly restaurant, so don’t expect much.

However, it is even worse than I could imagine. Outback Steakhouse almost doesn’t have a single vegan option. You can have some vegetables and bread, and that’s all. Even the rice is made with butter. If you exclude the animal ingredients from the salad, you will get some lettuce with tomatoes. Nothing more. In short, my advice is just to skip Outback Steakhouse as a vegan.

What are the vegan options at Outback Steakhouse?

To be honest, the list will be pretty short and disappointing. Here is everything that is vegan at the restaurant chain:

  • Bread: It’s free, and it’s free from animal ingredients.
  • Aussie Fries: just if you don’t mind the cross-contamination
  • Asparagus: at least something exciting.
  • Broccoli: steamed broccoli, nothing more. Make sure they don’t use butter.
  • Baked potatoes: order without butter.
  • Baked sweet potatoes: order without butter and honey
  • Fresh mixed veggies: nothing to add to it.
  • Kids fruit: as a dessert, I guess.
  • Soft drinks: lemonades, iced teas, aqua, coca-cola products, and Dr. Pepper.

You may ask what is missing. Well, Outback Steakhouse doesn’t have any vegan main dishes. You can also make some vegan salads, but they won’t be a great choice.

The restaurant chain does not offer cruelty-free salads; however, you can make some. But do not expect much; they will be pretty dull.

  • What to do: Exclude parmesan and croutons, and substitute the caesar dressing for vegan one.

Is there anything else?

Nope, there is nothing else that is cruelty-free. Some drinks and juices, and that’s all. Anyway, what would we expect from a steakhouse honestly?

Outback Steakhouse vegan options in brief

To be honest, it’s better if you just skip it. There are only a few side dishes and several different salad options, which will be almost the same if you remove the animal-derived ingredients. As a vegan, I don’t think we should visit a place like Steakhouse, even if they have vegan-friendly options. However, Outback Steakhouse has no decent vegan items on its menu, so we don’t even miss a thing, just like Texas Roadhouse. There are much better places to visit if you crave vegan fast food. For example, most Tex-Mex restaurants have pretty good vegan options. If you are more into the Southern style, than you should give a chance for Buffalo Wild Wings. It isn’t a big deal, but at least there are some decent vegan options.
