The Old Spaghetti Factory is a well-known restaurant chain with a long history. It is known for its delicious but affordable Italian-American cuisine and family-friendly atmosphere. The restaurant chain was founded in 1969 in Portland, Oregon. Today, it is available nationwide and also in Canada.
While the restaurant chain’s menu is centered around classic Italian dishes such as spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli, the Old Spaghetti Factory does offer some vegan options. However, they may not be explicitly made for vegans. Since then, you should always be aware and specify in the order that “no cheese, no butter.” Luckily, The Old Spaghetti Factory provides pretty informative nutritional and allergen information on its website and upon request, which is a huge help.
What is vegan at the Old Spaghetti Factory?
While the restaurant chain isn’t considered vegan-friendly, there are still some vegan options on Old Spaghetti Factory’s menu, which is only accidentally plant-based. But in the end, does it even matter? Here is the list of the vegan options at Old Spaghetti Factory:
- Olivie Tapenade,
- House salad mix (no croutons),
- Minestrone (it might be vegan, but according to the allergen information, it contains fish. It’s probably just cross-contamination, but it’s better if you ask.),
- Sautéed mushroom,
- Broccoli (ask if they can make it without butter),
- Freshly baked bread,
- Pasta Classics: Marinara, and mushroom sauce,
- Hearty Meal (which is the same as above, just larger),
- soft drinks & limonades.
These are all of the plant-based options at Old Spaghetti Factory in a nutshell. Luckily, the restaurant chain uses only 100% durum semolina spaghetti, and they also have gluten-free pasta. However, they repeatedly draw attention to the risk of cross-contamination.
Are there vegan spaghetti options at Old Spaghetti Factory?

How about the desserts?
Unfortunately, Old Spaghetti Factory doesn’t have any dairy or egg-free desserts.
Does gluten-free pasta vegan at Old Spaghetti Factory?
Yes, it is. You can enjoy the gluten-free spaghetti with marinara, or mushroom sauce.
Old Spaghetti Factory’s vegan menu in brief
While I did not expect much from Old Spaghetti Factory since they are considered a very traditional restaurant, it was a pleasant surprise. There is almost everything for a vegan: one appetizer, one soup, and two pasta options. The only thing missing is the dessert; however, at least there is free warm and fresh-baked bread. So, in short, I recommend Old Spaghetti Factory as a vegan, but in my opinion, Cheesecake Factory’s vegan offer is slightly better, even the pastas are better there. However, it is my opinion, it isn’t a fact.
