What are the vegan options at Velvet Taco?

While many Tex-Mex fast-food restaurant chains offer some accidentally vegan options, Velvet Taco doesn’t have such a thing as pinto beans. On the other hand, Velvet Taco has vegan options that are made for vegetarians. For example, tofu may look strange in a taco at first sight. However, it is pretty good. Let’s check the available vegan menu items at Velvet Taco:

  • Nashville Hot Tofu (substitute flour tortilla, exclude ranch crema, and creole vinaigrette),
  • Beer Battered Cauliflower (substitute flour tortilla, exclude queso and candied pepitas),
  • French fries,
  • Tots (easier to order kids tots),
  • Classic guacamole and chips,
  • drinks, and
  • beverages.

In my opinion, there is everything that a vegan wishes for at a fast-food restaurant.

Best 5 vegan options at Velvet Taco

To be honest, Velvet doesn’t offer many vegan options, but at least they are pretty good. Quality over quantity!

Nashville Hot Tofu

This is a dedicated item for vegetarians. Yes, for vegetarians. However, you can easily make Nashville Hot Tofu vegan. Substitute the flour tortilla—since it contains dairy—with a corn tortilla or lettuce wrap, which makes it very healthy. Also, exclude the crema—for obvious reasons—and creole vinaigrette, which contains honey. In the end, you will get a pretty decent vegan Nashville Hot Tofu at Velvet Taco.

Beer Battered Cauliflower Taco

Velvet Taco also offers a vegetarian taco option. Luckily, it isn’t hard to make it vegan. Substitute the flour tortilla just like before, and exclude the queso and the candied pepitas. Here we go—a fancy and tasty vegan taco!

Guacamole and chips

Guacamole and chips are a must-have side at a Tex-Mex restaurant. Luckily, guacamole and chips at Velvet Taco are naturally vegan. So, you don’t have to exclude anything—just order it right away!

Tots

It is also a very popular side dish that is usually vegan. The tots are also vegan at Velvet Taco. However, it is better if you order kid’s tots since the tots on the main menu contain a lot of animal ingredients that must be removed. It is easier to order plain tots with ketchup from the kid’s menu, in my opinion.

Drinks

While Velvet Taco’s only dessert, the velvet cake, isn’t vegan, we have to find another treat for the end of the meal. Velvet Taco offers many different types of basic cocktails. You can enjoy your margarita, Paloma, or ranch water (no dairy) with different flavors. You can also have many different beers and sangrias.

Velvet Taco as a vegan in a nutshell

While Velvet Taco isn’t the most vegan-friendly Tex-Mex restaurant, in my opinion, it is still something you shouldn’t avoid. There are two different, very tasty, and special vegetarian tacos at Velvet Taco that can easily be made vegan. Also, their tots, guacamole, and chips are pretty good. So overly, there are better Tex-Mex places such as Torchy’s Taco or On the Border, but it doesn’t mean that Velvet Taco’s vegan options are unsatisfying. In fact, what they have are particularly good
