Bob Evans Farmhouse Kitchen—as its name suggests—is a very traditional fast-food restaurant chain whose goal is to preserve homestyle meals. It primarily focuses on American country dishes, including eggs, sausage, bacon, etc. So, the question is, is there a place for vegan options at Bob Evans? While country style includes fresh vegetables, unfortunately, Bob Evans focuses on meat items. So, I think Bob Evans isn’t a place for vegans.
But let’s check the details before we conclude!
What are the vegan options at Bob Evans?
Oh well, it was quite a disaster, to be honest. The following items are or can be vegan:
- Some of the bread (brioche, sourdough, rye, wheat, white),
- French fries,
- Hash browns,
- Home fries,
- Seasonal fruits,
- Farmhouse garden salad (without cheese and croutons)
- Broccoli (without butter)
- Corn (without butter)
- Some of the sauces, condiments and toppings
- Blueberries,
- Brown sugar,
- Chocolate chips,
- Cinnamon chips,
- Cinnamon sugar,
- Cranberry relish, dried
- Balsamic dressing,
- Colonial dressing,
- Margarine,
- Pickle,
- Powdered sugar,
- Chocolate sauce,
- Vanilla syrup,
- Most of the beverages.
That’s all. Wildfire sauce might look vegan; however, it definitely contains honey. As you can see, Bob Evan’s vegan options aren’t satisfying, are they?
Best vegan items at Bob Evan’s
There are not many choices, so don’t expect much.
French fries
There are many places where even French fires are not vegan, such as McDonald’s. So, it is something. However, it isn’t easy to find any vegan sauce at Bob Evan’s, which goes well with french fries.
Shredded hash browns
Casual breakfast items are usually vegan if you don’t mind the cross-contamination, and the same problem goes here as well; there is no good plant-based sauce to make it a little bit more exciting.
Salads
Well, most salads will be plain if you exclude the animal ingredients. The best choices are Farmhouse Garden Salad and Grilled Chicken Chop Salad. The grilled chicken salad contains roasted red peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh greens served with balsamic vinaigrette and dinner rolls, which are unfortunately not vegan. You can ask for one of the vegan breads. The other quite okay option is the Farmhouse Garden Salad, which excludes the cheese and croutons.
There is no point in modifying the others since they won’t be any better. Important note: pecans are roasted with honey and are not vegan!
Bob Evans’s vegan options, in short
Of course, it could be worse, but still, it is disappointing. I would expect much more green from a farmhouse restaurant. There is nothing but some side dish without good sauce, which is pretty dull. So, in a word, I wouldn’t recommend Bob Evan’s as a vegan restaurant. Sorry. I would suggest you visit Applebee’s or Denny’s instead of Bob Evans.
