In Australia we have a great range of vegan products and various vegan stores online and with shop fronts. Where once there was only the Cruelty Free Shop and Vegan Perfection, now we have over ten online and store fronts who sell only vegan products. You can now buy a lot of vegan goods in health food stores and in supermarkets but it's always good to support the vegan owned and operated ones! Here's a list of them:
I have many how-to videos on the VLV! YouTube channel, two of them show how to make dairy milk alternatives using cruelty-free, plant ingredients - plus not harming any cows in the making. I have raw Almond milk as well as Soy milk videos that I hope you enjoy.
I'm honoured and excited to be taking part in the Live ARZone Guest Chat on Saturday 9 June (for my US and UK friends) which is Sunday morning (!) 10 June here in Australia.
Saturday was the first of the Green Earth Group Bake Sales at West End markets, Brisbane as part of the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale that took place this year from 21 - 29 April. There are many different groups taking part from all corners of the globe. Food, in particular sweet foods, are a great way to show the mainstream that vegans have many choices to chose from to eat as well as some vegan outreach and education at the same time. Inspired by Jeremy's zine workshop from last weekend, I decided to create an 8-page zine from one piece of A4 paper - instead of my usual handout. Here's the cover:
On Saturday in the back room of Brisbane's Loving Hut restaurant, Jeremy Staples held a Zine workshop for my volunteer-run, not for profit, environmental awareness, Green Earth Group. Here's a selection of some of Jeremy's own zines from his personal library:
Peter from the Online Associates Degree shared their latest infographic with me on the truth behind red meat for those people wanting to study nutrition or similar professions. The title of the infographic Eat Meat & Die is a bit in your face, the graphics aren't subtle, the references are credited. Overall I think the impact is great.
Saturday night it was Miranda's birthday and we celebrated at Brisbane's place-to-be-seen Cloudland with a 3 course vegan meal especially created for the 11 of us. Here's the gals (and Paul):
L-R: Amelia, the Birthday gal Miranda, L-C, Sal (front), Christina, Paul, Corinne & Tarryn.
On Saturday, Renata and I ran the first of the Green Earth Group Food Outreach events for this year in Brisbane. It also neatly coincided with MeatOut. I made a flyer to hand out to people on the day which had vegan recipes and more information:
In April and May this year, Lee Coates, OBE from new website Cruelty Free Money and the founder of Cruelty Free Super (Australia’s only dedicated cruelty-free Superfund for People, Animals and our Planet) is coming to Australia from the UK to speak about how to allign your Money and your Values with his Cruelty Free Money Speaking Tour & Animal Sanctuary Fundraiser:
I've just uploaded a new video featuring 3 easy to prepare, vegan, pizza topping ideas. I'm not much of a fan of cheese and much prefer to use soy cream cheese spread on the base rather than cheese completely covering the top of a pizza. Here's my pizzas (click on each photo to take you to the video, or see below)
Mediterranean Pizza:
For the Mediterranean Pizza I used tomatoes, basil, sesame seeds, soy cream cheese and cracked black pepper.
Today is International Women's Day a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday!
With the first chapter entitled Is there anything kale can't do? you know it's going to be grand! Pre-order now. Michael also runs NutritionFacts.org a great website full of, you know, nutrition facts with Videos, Blog and more. Michael is also one of the Authors in the VLV! Articles section.
There's a great animated film from 1982 The Plague Dogs based on the the 1977 novel of the same name by Richard Adams. This film was directed by Martin Rosen who also directed Watership Down - another animated film based on Richard Adam's novel. A friend of mine drew my attention to this film due to the fact that vivisection and animal cruelty are main messages in the story.
A lyrical, engrossing tale, Richard Adams creates a lyrical and engrossing tale, a remarkable journey into the hearts and minds of two canine heroes, Snitter and Rowf, fugitives from the horrors of an animal research center who escape into the isolation - and terror - of the wilderness.(Good Reads)
To celebrate the first night of my not-for-profit Green Earth Group's first Letter Writing event for the year, I made up a new leaflet to hand out to our attendees last night and to share online:
